Who we are and what we do...
PghConnect began as Ad-base Systems Inc. in 1986, doing business as Computer Comfort, a business and personal computer service and support company. Among other technical services, in 1994 we started developing, hosting, and maintaining commercial websites. In 1997 Computer Comfort became an Internet Service Provider (ISP) offering broadband Internet access via ISDN and T1 lines to our business customers. We also provided development and hosting of e-commerce sites as well as co-location services in our data center. At the beginning of 2000, we added DSL to our product line and Computer Comfort became one of the first Pittsburgh based SDSL providers. In 2001 Computer Comfort formed PghConnect as its formal Internet Service Company and started providing local and national dial-up Internet access services.

From Dial Up Services, Home SDSL, Business SDSL, Business T1’s or T3’s, we can provide you with complete connectivity solutions. PghConnect is a National Internet Service Provider headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with clients in the United States and Canada. PghConnect focuses on providing cost-effective Internet access to individual subscribers and businesses.
PghConnect believes that there is growing demand for high quality, low cost Internet access, and related services. PghConnect’s concept is NOT based upon the high cost, poor network performance, insufficient customer support, and billing problems, like other mainstream ISPs’. PghConnect believes that excellent customer support is critical to its success in retaining existing subscribers and in attracting new subscribers. PghConnect currently provides customer support on a 24/7 basis, and call center services. Subscribers can call the center through our toll-free "800" number. Subscribers can also e-mail their questions directly to a customer support address at the www.pghconnect.com website.
PghConnect’s sales and marketing efforts have been geared toward generating positive referrals and stimulating subscriber growth and retention by providing an exceptionally high quality service to its existing subscribers. In addition to encouraging referrals from existing subscribers, PghConnect engages in nationwide print publication advertising as well an on-line advertising. Sales are handled directly by our telephone sales force, which responds to incoming subscription inquiries, as well as through an on-line sign-up procedure. The on-line registration enables an end user to become a PghConnect subscriber by selecting a service and billing plan on-line, without the need to speak to a PghConnect customer service person.
PghConnect's primary subscribers are individuals within local dialing range of one of PghConnect's many 1000’s of local access numbers throughout the U.S. and Canada. The objective is to offer service in a way that enables subscribers to have a positive experience with PghConnect, even if they are not expert computer users or have no on-line experience. PghConnect also offers access to over 100,000 newsgroups, and toll-free technical support. In addition to our extensive customer support services, we provide helpful and easily understood on-line documentation, and a friendly and courteous support staff.
Billing for most of the subscribers is handled by automatic charges to credit cards or automatic withdrawals out of a checking account each month in advance. Business subscribers can be invoiced upon request. The subscriber, as well as PghConnect may cancel an account at any time.
PghConnect also offers hosting services such as website and email hosting. Why be bothered with the hassles and maintenance of hosting your own website, email, and high speed Internet connection. Web-hosting subscribers are responsible for building their own Web sites and then uploading the pages to one of many PghConnect Web servers. PghConnect’s hosting services feature state-of-the-art servers, high quality redundant connections to multiple upstream connections to the Internet, specialized customer support, and detailed statistical reporting of the hits to the website.
PghConnect subscribers use their accounts for communicating, retrieving information and publishing information on the Internet. In Company surveys of its subscribers, a substantial number of the Company's individual subscribers report that they use their PghConnect accounts for business as well as for personal purposes. The subscribers' connection is a direct PPP connection, enabling subscribers to use any standard Internet-capable software that will run on their computers.
